Donor site and beard transplantation

All patient lack sufficient hair in the donor site. Most of the time we prefer the hair at the back of the neck for beard transplantation. In case of insufficient donor hair follicles, body obtained from arms, legs and chest may be the next best alternatives. Beard transplantation is suitable for patients with male pattern hair loss (MPH), however, it is impossible for other alopecia types. Alopecia universalis patients have no hair on their scalp and body, therefore they are not eligible for such procedure.


Successful and natural looking beard transplantation results are often depend on the properties of the donor site; if the scalp hair of the patient are short and curly, then they will look much better as beard. However, if the patient has long straight hair, then there will be textural inconsistency and it will result in an unnatural look. Therefore, use of body hair instead of hair follicles will provide the best results for people with straight hair.

After beard transplantation

There are 3000 follicles in average during a beard transplantation and 600 follicles in sideburn transplantation. There will be no scars left after beard and sideburn transplantation.
